What’s all this about?
It’s practical, original, plain speaking advice, on how to stand out from the crowd, get noticed and get into the industry.

What this isn’t…
Some dull careers advice babble, regurgitated and re packaged, old ideas with new jargon; same old, same old, concocted by a so-called ‘expert’ who’s never worked in the business and knows as much about film and TV industry as my cat!

OVERVIEW: WHAT’S THIS BOOK ALL ABOUT?

EXT. BBC CAR PARK, ENGLAND – NIGHT:

Having just finished work and fought his way though the evening city traffic, a hopeful young man, 20, now sits in his parked car in front of a huge concrete building. He cranes his head forward to peer through his windscreen. In front of him stands the Headquarters for The British Broadcasting Corporation.

The young man bathes in the white light pouring from the giant illuminated BBC sign, as he has done every evening for the past year; because he has a dream. He’s not from an “industry family”, in fact he knows little about the industry at all, but for a long time has dreamed of working in Film and Television. Fresh faced and wet behind the ears, armed with nothing but naïve enthusiasm and the suit he has frantically changed into while driving here, he walks through the main entrance. The receptionist greets him on arrival.

RECEPTIONIST
(Eyeing him suspiciously)
Can I help, Sir?

YOUNG MAN
Yes, I was wondering if you had any job positions open at the moment?

RECEPTIONIST
No Sir, as I explained yesterday, and have explained all week, we’re not looking for any new employees. I’m sorry.

The young man thanks the receptionist for her time and leaves. It’s the third time he’s heard that news this week, and the tenth time this month… but he’ll be back again tomorrow; because he has a dream.

FADE TO BLACK.

"Point and look serious!"

“Point and look serious!”

Fast forward 35 years and here I am, Chris Weaver; Camera Operator turned Director of Photography turned Producer. In my 35 years of working in Film and TV I have been privileged to meet the most amazing people; Heads of State, Celebrities, Royalty, Astronauts and Sport Stars. I‟ve travelled the World, filmed in war zones, deserts and jungles, walked the halls of the Pentagon and shaken hands with Presidents. I can truly state that my career has been one of extraordinary, unforgettable experiences.

So how did that naive, inexperienced young man get his big break in the industry all those years ago? This book will explain. I did it, so can you.

My trusty Ronford F4 has proved its worth all over the world! Pah! Look at that flimsy, pathetic thing in the background, quaking in fear of the might Ronford!
